Thinking Partners

think_part Each PCT involved in Race for Health can access a 'Thinking Partner', someone from outside the organisation who can help the PCT make progress by prompting and challenging. Each develops the role according to the particular needs of the PCT he or she is working with. The Project Team arranges regular sessions for Thinking Partners to get together, swap notes, ideas and experiences, enabling the whole programme to benefit. 

Arvind Sharma - Leicester City PCT and Wandsworth PCT

_DSC0993Arvind has held a number of senior management roles in further and higher education including Head of Adult Education for Slough Council and Director of Student Services at University of East London.

In addition Arvind has worked as an Associate Inspector in the further education sector and has developed expertise in operating in and developing policies and innovative and responsive practice in complex and diverse community contexts. More recently Arvind was the Director for Ealing Race Equality Council and now works as a consultant for a range of public and third sector organisations as well as Thinking Partner for Race for Health.

Charles Lauder - Wolverhampton PCT, Lambeth PCT and Oldham PCT

Charles_LauderJoint Managing Director of Talawa Consulting, a company that designs and delivers client-specific management development and diversity consultancy and Talawa Production, which produces corporate videos and programmes for broadcast television.

Previous experience has included the design and delivery of diversity and inclusion strategy for London Development Agency, the design and delivery of race equality awareness training for a range of companies and organisations including the General Medical Council, Manchester Airports Group and Greater Manchester Probation Service and TV credits include 'Coronation Street' and award-winning short film 'Journey'.

Lynette Phillips - Suffolk PCT and Norfolk PCT

_DSC0950_1Lynette is a consultant with expertise in personal training and development in leadership and management of businesses and individuals.

She previously worked in a variety of clinical and senior managerial positions in the NHS and has a particular interest in the development of networks.She is currently the Chair of the London Black and Minority Network for NHS Staff & Allied Professions.

Stafford Scott - South Birmingham PCT, Haringey PCT and Luton PCT

Stafford has been working with "hard to reach communities" for over 20 yearsStaffordScott. He cut his teeth in "problem areas" such as Broadwater Farm and Angel Town and has worked tirelessly to build bridges between communities and mainstream service providers.

Stafford joined the Bernie Grant Trust in August 2001 and in that time he has successfully designed and delivered the Bernie Grant Trust's Community Leadership Training Programme. Stafford is currently a member of the Home Office's Practitioners Group on Community and Political Leadership, an advisor to the CRE and has done extensive work with the NRU and ODPM in Birmingham.

Shun Au - Berkshire East PCT

Shun Au OBE has been involved in BME work at all levels for nearly twenty years. He founded a number of community organizations and remained the Chair of Chinese Mental Health Association since its inception in 1992. He has extensive consulting experience spanning the British Army, Metropolitan Police Force, Department of Health, Deafblind UK, Dundee University and Shanghai Mental Health Centre, China.

He was non executive director of Waltham Forest Primary care Trust between 2002 – 2007 and has been non executive director of Hillingdon Primary Care Trust since April 2007. He has been appointed Honorary Chairman, Child mental Health Professional Committee, China Association for Mental Health, China. Shun was appointed OBE in 2006 for services to the Chinese community.

Teresa Edmans - Hastings and Rother PCT JP_201106_301

Teresa Edmans is an independent health and regeneration consultant, currently leading on health with Thames Gateway London Partnership. She sits on the LDA’s Health and Sustainability Advisory Group and Committee Member of the Big Lottery Reaching Communities Programme, distributing £100 million pounds of Lottery funding annually.

Teresa was Programme Manager, Health and Regeneration, at the King’s Fund, leading on regeneration on behalf of the London Health Commission.  She is an advisor with the Neighbourhood Renewal Unit and previously with Sure Start Unit. Teresa has worked in the NHS, local government and voluntary sector using community development to address the holistic health needs of the most socially excluded communities and to bring about change in service provision.

Trish Pashley - Coventry PCT and Ealing PCT

Trish Pashley has extensive experience of working with people to promote Equality, Diversity and Human Rights in a variety of settings however primarily those around the provision or commissioning of Health and Social Care services. She has worked with the GLA, running and managing the Liberty Festival in Trafalgar square and providing Scrutiny for their equality programme. She sat on the London Health Commission, the London Equality Commission and was the Chief Executive of GLAD ( Greater London Action on Disability. Recently she was Head of Equality, Diversity and Human Rights at the Healthcare Commission and now is working with the Equality and Inclusion Team at the Department of Health, on secondment from the Care Quality Commission providing policy support and influencing cross government embedding of equality.

Usman Khan - Bradford and Airedale TPCT, Westminster PCT Usman

Usman is a public policy specialist, currently Head of the Health Sector for Matrix Consulting. He was Non-executive Chair of Camden & Islington Community NHS Trust from 1998 to 2002 and is currently a member of the London Modernisation Board and a trustee at Turning Point.

Wallen Matthie - Trafford PCT, Manchester PCT, Liverpool PCT and Leeds PCTWallen

Wallen Matthie is director of Talawa Consulting. He is former employment officer for a Manchester Council for Community Relation. He is a consummate communicator, skills developed through a successful career in broadcasting. Working amongst public and private sector organisation he advises on diversity/equality strategy and the development of policies and procedures critical to organisational change.
