Thinking partners

think_part Each PCT involved in Race for Health can access a 'Thinking Partner', someone from outside the organisation who can help the PCT make progress by prompting and challenging. Each develops the role according to the particular needs of the PCT he or she is working with. The Project Team arranges regular sessions for Thinking Partners to get together, swap notes, ideas and experiences, enabling the whole programme to benefit. 

Anjali Arya - Haringey TPCT

AnjaliAnjali is an independent management and organisation development consultant with experience of working on manager development, performance management and diversity and equality.

Past roles include Head of Personnel at the London Borough of Hounslow.

Shun Au - Berkshire East PCT

Shun Au OBE has been involved in BME work at all levels for nearly twenty years. He founded a number of community organizations and remained the Chair of Chinese Mental Health Association since its inception in 1992. He has extensive consulting experience spanning the British Army, Metropolitan Police Force, Department of Health, Deafblind UK, Dundee University and Shanghai Mental Health Centre, China.

He was non executive director of Waltham Forest Primary care Trust between 2002 – 2007 and has been non executive director of Hillingdon Primary Care Trust since April 2007. He has been appointed Honorary Chairman, Child mental Health Professional Committee, China Association for Mental Health, China. Shun was appointed OBE in 2006 for services to the Chinese community.  

Scott Durairaj - Hastings and Rother PCT

Scott is the thinking partner of Hastings and Rother PCT and he brings a breadth of extensive knowledge and experience across the key strand of equality and human rights.He spent 10 years as an opperational Paramedic duty manager across Merseyside and cheshire before becoming one of the youngest non-executive directors when he joined Cheshire, Halton and Warrington Race Equality Council (REC) in 1997. He gained a PGC from the University of Central Lancashire for Equality, Human Rights and Sociology. He started up a new hate crime programme in his post as Hate Crime officer in Salford, as a result of new and innovative reporting techniques hate crime reporting increased from 206 to 498 in one year. Scott gained recognition at the Department of Health for Equality Impact Assessment in 2004 whilst at Mersey Care NHS Trust and was offered a secondment to lead on Equality and Human Rights on the Pacesetter programme. He was also the Pacesetter national Gypsy and Traveller Health equality lead and now Head of Community Engagement and Equalities for Redbridge.

Errol Francis - Westminster PCT

Usman Khan - Bradford and Airedale TPCT

Usman is a public policy specialist, currently Head of the Health Sector for Matrix Consulting. He was Non-executive Chair of Camden & Islington Community NHS Trust from 1998 to 2002 and is currently a member of the London Modernisation Board and a trustee at Turning Point

Nazia Khanum - Oldham PCT

Dr Nazia Khanum OBE has an MA in Political Science and PhD in History. She is a Non Executive Director and Chair of the Diversity Committee of Luton teaching PCT. She is Director of Equality in Diversity (an independent consultancy in management, research and training). Before setting up her consultancy, she worked as head of equalities in five local authorities in diverse areas. She promotes equality and diversity as a College Governor and member of Equality, Human Rights and Community Cohesion Group of Luton's Strategic Partnership, Luton's Race Advisory Forum, Domestic Violence Forum, Forced Marraige Steering Group, Independendent Advisory Group for Bedfordshire Police Service, Luton All Women's Centre, Board member of Bedfordshire Learning and Skills Council and as Chair of community organisations such as Purbachal - the eastern sky, Luton Bangladesh Helping Hand and Luton Multicultural Women's Coalition. Since 1983 she has been deeply involved in community empowerment through her work with diverse communities. As an Equality/Diversity consultant she works with a wide range of agencies across public, private and voluntary sectors. She has written extensively on a range of subjects including equality and human rights issues and also produced good pactice guidelines relating to employment, organisational culture change, bullying and harassment, forced marraige and so on. She is a Thinking Partner of the National Race for Health programme. Currently, she is working as a Specilist Adviser to the Home Affairs Select Committee on Domestic Violence, Forced Marriage and Honour-based Violence.

Charles Lauder - Wolverhampton PCT, Lambeth PCT and Luton TPCT

Charles_LauderJoint Managing Director of Talawa Consulting, a company that designs and delivers client-specific management development and diversity consultancy and Talawa Production, which produces corporate videos and programmes for broadcast television.

Previous experience has included the design and delivery of diversity and inclusion strategy for London Development Agency, the design and delivery of race equality awareness training for a range of companies and organisations including the General Medical Council, Manchester Airports Group and Greater Manchester Probation Service and TV credits include 'Coronation Street' and award-winning short film 'Journey'.

Wallen Matthie - Manchester PCT, Liverpool PCT and Leeds PCTWallen

Wallen Matthie is director of Talawa Consulting. He is former employment officer for a Manchester Council for Community Relation. He is a consummate communicator, skills developed through a successful career in broadcasting. Working amongst public and private sector organisation he advises on diversity/equality strategy and the development of policies and procedures critical to organisational change.

Lynette Phillips - Suffolk PCT and Norfolk PCT

_DSC0950_1Lynette is a consultant with expertise in personal training and development in leadership and management of businesses and individuals.

She previously worked in a variety of clinical and senior managerial positions in the NHS and has a particular interest in the development of networks.She is currently the Chair of the London Black and Minority Network for NHS Staff & Allied Professions.

Maggie Rust - Bristol PCT and Shropshire County PCT

Maggie has worked in a number of roles in the public and voluntary sectors including head of policy in a metropolitan council, director of a large voluntary organisation, managing youth and community services and a neighbourhood office. She has extensive experience of community participation and partnership working, was part of a HAZ team and also an associate with the government modernisation team. She now works as a freelance consultant with experience including the national evaluation of LSPs; evaluation of local programmes; work with LSPs on performance management, neighbourhood renewal and neighbourhood management activity.

Stafford Scott - South Birmingham PCT

Stafford has been working with "hard to reach communities" for over 20 years. He cut his teeth in "problem areas" such as Broadwater Farm and Angel Town and has worked tirelessly to build bridges between communities and mainstream service providers.

Stafford joined the Bernie Grant Trust in August 2001 and in that time he has successfully designed and delivered the Bernie Grant Trust's Community Leadership Training Programme. Stafford is currently a member of the Home Office's Practitioners Group on Community and Political Leadership, an advisor to the CRE and has done extensive work with the NRU and ODPM in Birmingham.

Arvind Sharma - Leicester City PCT and Wandsworth PCT

_DSC0993Arvind has held a number of senior management roles in further and higher education including Head of Adult Education for Slough Council and Director of Student Services at University of East London.

In addition Arvind has worked as an Associate Inspector in the further education sector and has developed expertise in operating in and developing policies and innovative and responsive practice in complex and diverse community contexts. More recently Arvind was the Director for Ealing Race Equality Council and now works as a consultant for a range of public and third sector organisations as well as Thinking Partner for Race for Health.
