NHS Oldham will be hosting a Peer Review visit on the 28th September and all day on the 29th September 2009.
Theme of Peer Review
Oldham is a borough of contrasts. The decline of its industrial heritage has brought economic issues to certain areas within the town whilst its rural community bordering the Peak District houses a generally more affluent and healthier population. Oldham has approximately a 17-18% BME community, mainly of South Asian descent.
NHS Oldham has taken an integrated approach to equality and diversity which is embedded within its governance and performance model. The ethos is that equality and diversity issues are the responsibility of everybody, all of the time and in everything that they do. NHS Oldham hopes that the peer review will identify where this model is working well as well as areas for improvement. It is hoped that the review will assist NHS Oldham to build on and deliver its model ‘further and faster’. The review will therefore focus on exploring the model from three different perspectives: equitable access to primary care; engagement within the commissioning process and NHS Oldham’s role as an employer.
