NHS Norfolk will be hosting a Peer Review visit on the 15th October and all day on the 16th October 2009.

Theme of Peer Review

NHS Norfolk covers a predominantly rural area, which is home to a 1.5% BME population. The area is diverse and includes the city of Norwich, many small villages and thriving market towns. Each locality has its own priorities, problems and challenges, so health services are tailored and respond to local need. Norfolk has experienced significant international migration from the EU, originally from Portugal and latterly from Poland, Lithuania and Latvia, and gains approximately 3,000 people each year. In addition, there is an element of international migration attributable to short term migrants, primarily working in the agricultural sector. These migrants are largely unregistered and therefore not counted as part of the resident population, but are estimated between 20-30,000 per year.

Norfolk has a relatively small Black, Asian and Other minority ethnic (BME) population, largely concentrated in the Norwich area. The county also has a significant traveller population, with estimates suggesting that around 25% of the East of England’s travellers at any one time reside in Norfolk.
