NHS Wandsworth will be hosting a Peer Review visit on the 24th November and all day on the 25th November 2009.

Theme of Peer Review

Wandsworth has seen a shift in its demographics over the past 10 years. It is now home to 3 distinct groups of residents: traditional population long-term residents which includes a higher proportion of older persons; Incomers – younger, mobile and tend to be single head of household and many are not registered with GPs; and refugees and asylum seekers who represent a small proportion of the population but who have significantly higher health (including behavioural and mental health) and social needs.

These changes have significant implications for the PCT, who have identified new ways of working based on emerging needs, such as improving care pathways for those with long-term health conditions; improving access to emergency services and to urgent care; developing creative ways to engage and involve young people in PCT activities through PPI, GPs and community development work; intensifying preventative health care services for young people, in particular those from minority ethnic communities and with known health risks; ensuring that resources are quantified and invested in services to meet the health needs of a very small but extremely vulnerable group (asylum and refugees) and involving and consulting with communities to ensure full participation in PCT activities and to ensure that their particular health needs are met.
