Leading Action on Race Equality

The Race for Health Summit “Leading Action on Race Equality and Health” took place on 19 October 2009 and was a great success. Copies of the publication were sent out to all Trusts and Health Authorities and pledges are now being received ready to publish and share on the Race for Health Website.

Liverpool Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Workshop

Click on the link below to view the presentation by Anndeloris Chacon on the subject of Psychosocial Aspects of Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia given at the workshop held on 29 October 2009. The launch of Liverpool’s Single Equality Scheme this event was also greatly successful and benefitted members of the local community as well as Healthcare and Equality and Diversity Professionals and who were given the opportunity to hear the facts and realities of the disease as well as a first hand account from Mrs Oye who tragically lost her child to Sickle Cell.

Peer Reviews

As stated in the October Mail-Out, Wandsworth PCT are holding their next Peer Review from 24-25 November, focusing upon the impacts of changing demographics in the area. Leeds will also be holding a Peer Review on the 2nd and 3rd of February 2010.

As you are aware, November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month and the Health Promotion Team at Liverpool PCT are hoping to raise awareness by asking healthcare colleagues to insert the following link into their e-signatures:

Hybridization as a Therapeutic Challenge – Couple and Family Work Across Bicultural Divides

Due to take place on Friday 20 November, the seminar to be held at the London Voluntary Resource Centre on Holloway Road discusses the therapeutic challenges of working with family members representing multiple generations with quite different cultural values. Tickets cost between £30 and £45 and a downloadable booking form is attached.

Inclusion and Exclusion in Palliative and End of Life Care

Diversity and Equality in Government: Meeting the Challenges of the Future

10 December sees the inaugural annual conference for the diversity and equality community in Government. This event is specifically aimed at policy makers and practitioners working across the civil service and will feature a series of keynote addresses as well as best practice case studies drawn from nominees in the 2009 Diversity & Equality Awards.
