Improving the knowledge and practice in health provision to black and minority ethnic communities

Venue: School of Oriental and African Studies, Thornhaugh Street, Russell Square, London WC1H 0XG. 9.30am – 4.00pm

The Race Equality Foundation is holding a conference that will provide an opportunity to explore evidence on the health needs and experiences of black and minority ethnic communities as well as how to improve policy and practice. The event will:

  • Develop a critical understanding of the extent and content of evidence on health inequalities;
  • Explore examples of what can work to improve health provision for black and minority ethnic communities;
  • Share knowledge on how to bring about change in the provision of health for these communities;
  • Provide a forum for networking and action planning amongst front line staff, managers and their organisations.

Keynote speaker: Gurch Randhawa, Professor of Diversity in Public Health, and Director, Institute for Health Research University of Bedfordshire

Who should attend?

The event is targeted at practitioners working across the provision of health care services:

  • General Practitioners
  • Community health project personnel
  • Health Visitors
  • Workers on specific initiatives e.g.. Mental health
  • Disability project personnel
  • Workers with young people
  • Those who work with men
  • Carers

Also, those working in the voluntary sector including black voluntary organisations, social care agencies, Primary Care Trusts and researchers are welcome. Service users are also particularly welcome to attend and bursaries are available on request.
