The Confidential Enquiry into Maternal and Child Health (CEMACH) has released its report on maternal deaths for 2003-2005. The media coverage focused on the risks associated with obesity however the report documented the very poor health outcomes of women from Black and minority ethnic communities, including refugees and asylum seekers. In this period, Black African women were six times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than White women. Please note the paragraph detailing the risks of using partners/family members as interpreters.
