Ealing PCT ... Diversity Month in Ealing
Ealing Primary Care Trust designated February 2005 as 'Diversity Month' to highlight the PCT's commitment to valuing diversity and tackling health inequalities. In Ealing minority ethnic communities make up 42% of the population, rising to 88% in some Southall wards, the target area for the Race for Health programme. Ealing is the fourth most ethnically diverse Borough in London.
Valuing diversity is about promoting good race relations - but also much more. PCT Chief Executive Robert Creighton explains: "We need an inclusive culture and services that are flexible and accessible to all. We need to develop our core processes in ways that will benefit all patients. Race equality is one of the most pressing areas for action, but our commitment to diversity needs to cover all kinds of inequality and be embedded in all our work."
Diversity Month activities included: -
- A social event hosted run jointly by the PCT Board, the Professional Executive Committee and Disability Connect, the new partnership forum for people with disabilities.
- An anniversary celebration for the Black and Minority Ethnic Staff Network for the 6,500 NHS employees in Ealing.
- A Speed Networking event for all staff, aiming to break down barriers and have fun at the same time.
- A themed newsletter, Ealing Matters.
