Engaging communities in the implementation plan for urgent care
Equality Impact Assessment involves testing the potential effects of a policy on particular populations in a rigorous way.
The urgent care system and the services which make it up must be able to offer the same level of care to all members of the population. Manchester has very diverse communities each of which may have different needs or aspirations when accessing urgent care services. There is national evidence that there are differences in health outcomes based upon factors such as ethnicity which need to be systematically reduced over time. The service models implemented through this programme will need to reflect all diversity issues in order to meet the needs of its users and to ensure that the system delivers the outcomes required of it.
An assessment is currently being done using the NHS Manchester Equality Impact Assessment as part of approvals of service specifications and business cases. These will be posted on the NHS Manchester website as evidence of best practice in this area. Each initiative will undergo an equality impact assessment prior to the service specification being passed for contracting/procurement.
