A briefing on ethnic inequalities in access to treatments for coronary heart disease in NHS hospitals in London
This briefing raises a number of issues for commissioners. In particular Bangladeshi patients had only 2/3 of the number of revascularisations that would be expected given their level of need. Black Caribbean and Black African patients also had a smaller number of these procedures than would be expected.
The briefing also highlights the importance of appropriate ethnicity coding and highlights problems in two sector areas in London (North Central and South West) where more work needs to be done.
A more detailed report (Using Routine Data to Measure Ethnic Differentials in Access to Revascularisation in London) with technical information is also available on the LHO Website.
